Withdrawal of 250 Million Pounds in Super Casino Proposal Shocks UK
Philip Anschutz originally said that his company AEG, who owns the Dome in London, planned to invest 600 million pounds redeveloping the venue to include a casino, hotel and concert arena, but a spokesperson for the company said that development would be 'limited' if it did not get the license.
He went on to say that without the super-casino there would be less exhibition space, no theatre and no hotel, and the company would only be spending an estimated UK Pounds 350 million on the venture.
The UK government is now suffering further embarrassment as the billionaire at the centre of the Prescott-ranch controversy has warned the government that he would withdraw 250 million pounds of investment from the Millennium Dome if he does not get a super-casino license.
Hugo Swire, the Conservative Party's shadow minister of State for Culture, Media and Sport questioned whether Anschutz had been promised a license when he took over the Dome project.'If that's the case, who told him that? Who has been telling him: "Don't worry, we'll fix it?" he said
After further allegations in the Mail on Sunday that Prescott had accepted a gift of cowboy boots, hat and belt buckle from Anschutz, the Liberal Democrats leader Ming Campbell said "I would not be at all surprised if we see him stepping down from the deputy premiership."
